The Atlanta VAMC has 405 authorized inpatient beds (273 hospital, 120 Community Living Center and 12 PRRTP) and is a tertiary care facility classified as a Complexity Level 1A facility. It is a teaching hospital, providing a full range of patient care services complete with state-of-the-art technology, educ! ation and research. Comprehensive health care is provided thro! ugh emergency medicine, primary care, tertiary care, and long-term care in the areas of medicine, surgery, mental health, physical medicine and rehabilitation, neurology, oncology, dentistry, geriatrics, and extended care. The Atlanta VAMC is part of the VA Southeast Network (VISN 7), which includes facilities in Georgia, Alabama and South Carolina. The Atlanta VAMC Community Living Center serves metro Atlanta and includes extended care rehabilitation, psycho-geriatric care, and general long term care. The facility also serves as a prosthetics treatment center, fabricating and supplying mechanical devices such as artificial limbs for patients within the states of Georgia, South Carolina and Alabama.

The Atlanta VA Medical Center is located at 1670 Clairmont Road in Decatur, Georgia. The medical center oversees seven VA Community-Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs) in Smyrna (Cobb County); Lawrenceville (Gwinnett County); Oakwood (Hall County); East Point (South Fulton! County); Carrollton (Carroll County); Stockbridge (Henry County); Newnan (Coweta County) and Blairsville (Union County) in addition to an outpatient clinic in Decatur and an outreach clinic in Rome, Georgia.

NOTE: Applicant's education and length of practice (experience) will be considered by a Nurse Professional Standards Board in determining the salary of the applicant selected.

KEY REQUIREMENTS

Minimum two (2) years clinical LPN experie! nce required.
English language proficiency required.
Background/Security Investigation/designated/random drug testing required.
Full unrestricted license required.

Outpatient experience preferred DUTIES:
The Licensed Practical Nurse is a direct care provider who has the technical proficiency and excellent observation skills necessary for initiating, performing, and completing assigned duties in delivering comprehensive practical nursing care to variable patient populations. She/he possesses knowledge and ability to appropriately carryout assigned patient care based on patient's conditions. She/he demonstrates competency in dealing with a high volume of patients with chronic disease (e.g., hypertension, diabetes, and cardiac and pulmonary disease), as well as acute episodes of illness. Completed work needs only a general review by registered nurse for appropriateness and conformity with established policies and procedures.

Duties :!
·
Assists with optimizing patient flow in clinic.
·
Gathers patient history as appropriate.
·
Completes intake data as indicated by the condition of patient,
including vital signs, oxygen saturation, height, weight and patient reported
pain level.
·
Completes appropriate clinical reminders at each triage visit.
·
Recognizes deviations from normal and reports to RN/provider.
·
Documents all data into computerized patient record.
·
Performs procedures such as finger sticks, bladder scans, EKG,
venous specimen collection, visual acuity screening, dressing changes,
injections, nebulizer treatments, etc.
·
Maintains safe environment and recognizes potential safety risks
to patient and caregiver.
·
Considers cognitive, physical, emotional and chronological
maturation of adult and geriatric patientsÂ' needs in providing patient care.
·
Routinely checks on exam roo! ms, performing cleaning/stocking as
needed.
·
Demonstrates! ability to maintain self-control in stressful and
emergency situations.
·
Maintains currency in American Heart Association, Basic Cardiac
Life Support.
·
Works cooperatively with other health care professionals/team
members and offers assistance to co-workers as appropriate.
·
Interacts positively and in a professional manner during each
interaction with patient, family and all staff.
·
Understands the concepts associated with the Patient Aligned
Care Team (PACT) and contributes to providing patient and family centered care
second to none.
·
Provides support to the Bronze Geri-PACT clinic as well as a
multitude of other subspecialty clinics supported under the Geriatrics and
Extended Care service line.
·
Able to access patient education materials at provider request.
·
Participates in unit performance improvement activities.
Recruitment incentive is not authorized

Salary will be determined by the facility
Nurse Professional Standards Board (NPSB) and will be based on education and
experience.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT: Graduate of a school of practical or vocational nursing approved by the appropriate State accrediting agency and/or the National League for Nursing at the time the program was completed by the applicant.
LICENSURE REQUIREMENT : Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate licensed practical or vocational nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT: One year of qualifying experience at the GS-5 level or equivalent and one year of additional qualifying experience at the GS-6 level or equivalent. U.S. Citizenship.
