Job Summary:
Provide medical care and treatment to obstetrical patients under the supervision of an obstetrician/gynecologist during pregnancy and normal delivery and to instruct patients in proper prenatal and postnatal and infant care.
Job Duties & Responsibilities:
Take part in initial examination of patient, monitor course of pregnancy, advise on proper health practices, take test as appropriate, and report any complications to obstetrician.
Prepare patients and fathers for delivery; train mothers-to-be in exercise, breathing, and relaxation techniques. Provide instruction in breast-feeding if desired.
Attend and reassure patient through course of labor, monitor condition of fetus, administer medications, notify physician of prolonged labor or any complications indicating need for possible surgical intervention.
Deliver infant and check both mother and child to ensure! that each are responding normally.
During postpartum peri! od, visit mother and child to provide instruction in feeding and care of the newborn.
Conduct classes for patients and family members concerning pregnancy, delivery, and proper child care.
Conduct classes for nursing students to ensure they are able to assist with new mothers are part of their training.
Provide advice on family planning and perform gynecological services.
Maintain an up-to-date knowledge base of current trends and accepted practices.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualification Requirements:Minimum Education:
Completion of post-graduate midwifery program accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education (ACME).
Ninimum Experience:
No experience required.
Licensure / Certification(s):
Certified Nurse-Midwife (CNM) or Certified Midwife (CM) through the American Midwifery Certification Board (AMCB).
Licensed as a Midwife in the State of Georgia.
K! nowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Ability to remain calm during labor and delivery in order to reassure patient and exercise good professional judgment.
Good verbal and written skills necessary for communication with patients and physicians.
Sufficient vision and hearing ability to observe patients.
Sufficient physical strength to assist during labor and perform deliveries.
