Must be Board Certified DUTIES:
Carl Vinson VAMC is seeking a Board Certified Emergency Medicine or Internal Medicine Physician to join our hospital staff. He/she is responsible for oversight and management of medical emergencies and inpatient medical treatment. The Emergency Department (ED) Director/Chief of Medicine is responsible for treatment within a Level III (ICU). He/she will ensure policies are established for all standards of medical care within the facility. He/she will work in a team setting with other physicia! ns, nurse managers, registered nurses and support staff assigned to per! form duties to accomplish the treatment of patients. Monitors and ensures medical staff compliance with agency regulations, medical staff bylaws, facility policies, Joint Commission standards, performance measures and other appropriate healthcare policies, missions, operating programs and extensive knowledge specialized knowledge of healthcare management. He/she will function as a member of the senior leadership team and is accountable and responsible to the Chief of Staff for coordination of emergency care in the ED with clinical staff administrative oversight.

Responsibilities of he/she will be approximately 30% clinical and 70% administrative duties.

Work Schedule 8:00 am - 4:30 pm

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants must meet the minimum qualifications as stated in VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Appendix G2, dated 04/15/02. Basic Requirements:

(a) Citizenship - Citizen of the United States.
(b)! Education - Degree of Doctor of Medicine OR an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Secretary of Veteran Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. Schools of medicine holding regular institutional membership in the Association of American Medical Colleges for the year in which the degree was granted. Schools of Osteopathic medicine approved by the American Osteopathic Association for the year in which the degree was granted. Schools (including foreign schools) accepted by the licensing body of a State, Territory, or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico), or in the District of Columbia as qualifying for full or unrestricted licensure.
(c) Licensure and Registration - Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or the District of Columbia.! The physician must maintain current registration in the State of Licen! se if this ia a requirement for continuing active, current licensure.
(d) English Language Proficiency - Physicians, including residents, appointed to direct patient-care positions must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d) and 7407(d).
(e) Additional requirements - The incumbent must be Board Certified by the American Board of Emergency Medicine (AOBEM) or by the American Ostepathic Board of Emergency Medicine (AOBEM). Or the Board of Internal Medicine. The incumbent must prove successful completion of an Accrediation Council for Graduate Medicual Education or American Osteopathic Association approved post-graduate residency in Medicine or equivalent.
