JOB SUMMARY

A Clinical Nurse performs the nursing process while providing direct patient care in a safe and effective manner that promotes quality patient outcomes. The Clinical Nurse performs these functions as a member of the interdisciplinary healthcare team.

QUALIFICATIONS

Current license in the state of Georgia as a Registered Nurse.
BLS certification required within 30 days of hire
Graduation from an approved Diploma or Associate’s Degree program.
Bachelor’s Degree is preferred.
Previous Pediatric experience preferred.
Must be able to successfully pass the Basic Windows Skills Assessment at 80% or higher rating within 30 days of date of hire.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Technical Skills
While clinical staff may serve a specific patient population, they have the potential to care for patients within the age population range served at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta. Clinical staff will have competencies that will incorporate population specific guidelines. This age population includes:
N = Neonate (less than 30 days)
I = Infant (30 days to 1 year)
EC = Early Childhood (1-5 years)
LC = Late Childhood (5-13 years)
A = Adolescent (13-17 years)
AD = Adult
ALL = all ages
Accesses and follows policies.
Uses resources effectively to assist in maintaining budget.
Participates in PI process
Participates in maintaining and monitoring the work environment to ensure a continual state of Joint Commission readiness.
Coordinates Discharge planning
Reads nursing research and EBP articles posted on the unit and questions care as it relates to EBP.

Critical Thinking
Demonstrates comprehensive assessment skills.
Evaluates patient response to interventions and adjusts plan of care appropriately.
Demonstrates rapid recognition of subtle changes in patient status and takes appropriate action while maintaining professional composure.
Recognizes existence of nursing practice trends and questions care as it relates to evidence based practice.
Consistently and independently prioritizes patient care.

Interpersonal Relationships
Includes family in patient care
Provides effective education appropriate for learning needs of patient/family.
Participates in unit based customer service initiatives.
Effectively communicates using SBAR with all team members and physicians including transfer and the discharge process. Questions any inaccuracies or deviation from practice standards.
Resolves situations of conflict involving patients, families and staff and seeks appropriate resources when necessary.
Appropriately communicates and demonstrates cohesive behavior among team members

Leadership
Demonstrates support of CHOICE and unit committees
Appropriately delegates tasks
Supports unit goals.
May serve as preceptor, mentor, team leader or charge nurse
Seeks resources by actively consulting with the interdisciplinary team.
Charge Nurse drives and effectively facilitates timely admission, transfer and discharge process for unit, ensuring efficient and safe patient flow.

Mandatory requirements
75% attendance at staff meetings if applicable
Attends minimum of 12 hours job related education
Completes mandatory education requirements as defined by unit and system by due date.
Completes unit specific orientation successfully and provides documentation
BLS certification required within 30 days of hire
PALS/PEARS Certification within one year of hire date as required by department.
